Robert Burns is a renowned Scottish poet and lyricist, best known for "Auld Lang Syne". Although raised from humble beginnings, Burns is strongly associated with the beginning of the Romantic movement and is the most notable poet to have written in the Scots dialect. His patriotic song "Scots Wha Hae" was even regarded as the unofficial anthem for Scotland for many years. He was born on the 25th of January 1759 and it is, therefore, the 25th of January that we choose every year to celebrate his life and work.
